These are terms you will use when working with an argumentative piece of writing.
Claim: A statement supported by evidence. (This is what you think is true.)
Example:
Mr. Chave is a 6th grade teacher.
Evidence: Information that can be proved.
Examples:
Mr. Chave has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Mr. Chave teaches class every day.
Warrant or Explanation: Common sense rules that people accept as generally true.
Examples:
People who earn Bachelor’s Degrees in Education are qualified to teach at schools.
Mr. Chave would not teach in your classroom if he wasn’t a 6th grade teacher.
