Avoiding Plagiarism in Writing
Paraphrasing Using a Web Resource

If you use the web or any other source to provide information for your paper, you must give credit to the source of your information EVEN if you use your own words, which is called paraphrasing.
Here’s an example. Brady went to the R.C. car website to get some information for his paper. He wants to make sure he doesn’t plagiarize, but he also wants to include information about how to clean the motor of his R.C. car. Brady plans to put the information into his own words. He also notices there are no page numbers on the web page he’s using.
Here’s how Brady credits his source in his paper:
According to Everything-RC-Cars. Com, cleaning a brushless motor is easy and only requires a few steps that have to be done a couple times a year.
If there were page numbers and Brady’s information was found on page 12, the page number would go at the end of the sentence inside parentheses. The period goes after the last parenthesis. This is what Brady’s sentence would look like:
According to Everything-RC-Cars. Com, cleaning a brushless motor is easy and only requires a few steps that have to be done a couple times a year (12).
